Sound and Production Skills: Doing (40 credits) (Semester 1 and 2)
You will develop fundamental skills in audio recording, editing, mixing and production and acquire the foundational practical expertise needed in the field of creative sound. This module will prepare you with comprehensive practical skills, which you will be able to deliver with confidence throughout the entirety of your CertHE qualification and into your future studies or industry work.
Working in the Creative Industries: Employability (20 credits) (Semester 1)
This module will provide you with knowledge of the formation and development of the global creative industries and the various potential employment strands available within it. You will gain an understanding of the numerous income streams available for creatives and be able to evaluate which of these are most suitable for different career paths. You will also obtain an understanding of the various support organisations available within the fields of creative production.
Sonic Storytelling: Understanding (20 credits) (Semester 1)
You will gain an appreciation and knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the art of sonic storytelling. In applying the skills you have learnt in your ‘Sound and Production Skills’ module, you will apply these to both practical and theoretical sonic storytelling skills, which are vital attributes of a 21st Century creative professional.
Sound and Vision: Understanding (20 credits) (Semester 2)
You will develop knowledge which is focused on the amalgamation of audio and visual media. You will learn new fundamental skills which are utilised in this area, as well as strengthening those taught in your ‘Sound and Production’ and ‘Developing Sound and Production’ modules. You will be able to deliver these skills with confidence throughout your CertHE qualification and into your future studies or industry work.
Creative Collaboration: Employability (20 credits) (Semester 2)
You will develop an understanding of the key attributes of creative collaboration, including problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills. These skills will be developed through knowledge and understanding of online collaborative tools, group project collaboration, working through and resolving conflict scenarios, negotiation techniques and industry focused challenges. Working in conjunction with the knowledge obtained in your ‘Working in Creative Industries’ module, different types of collaborative partnerships will also be discussed.
We are looking for people who can demonstrate their passion for creative industries and an ability to successfully complete a Higher Education program. This will initially be assessed through your personal statement, which should include any previous study or relevant experience in media. Our Admissions Team will look at the merits of each applicant, taking the following evidence into consideration:
- Personal statement
- Predicted or previously attained grades
- Examples of work
- References
- Relevant work experience
Applicants may be asked to complete a written exercise and/or attend an interview.
Where conditional offers are made, typical offers will be set as
- 96 UCAS points, plus GCSE
- English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* – C), or suitable Level 2 equivalents.
International applicants will also require an
- IELTS score of 6.0 (with 5.5 in every category)
Offers can also be made for exceptional applicants who demonstrate their ability through examples of previous work and/or attainment in previous academic study.
Applicants without formal qualifications or who have achieved academic qualifications lower than the typical conditional offer may be considered on the strength of relevant prior learning
and experience, demonstrated through an interview, written exercise and portfolio of work.
In order to undertake study for the CertHE in Creative Sound Production, you will need access to the following:

- Preferably Intel i7 processor upwards, minimum 8GM RAM, 50GB of free HardDrive space.
